POSTIVE PROOF OF VOTE SUPPRESSION IN OHIO DURING THE LAST PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Helen Dewar and Paul Farhi | Washington Post | October 23, 2004
Ohio's Supreme Court rejected Ralph Nader's effort to get his name on the state ballot yesterday, in a blow to the independent presidential candidate but a possible boon to the hopes of Democrat John F. Kerry....
The ruling was the second setback in five days for Nader in the critical swing state. On Monday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit turned down Nader's request to delay a federal judge's decision that removed him from the Ohio ballot....
In its ruling yesterday, the court said Nader's campaign waited too long before raising that claim, and that granting Nader's request now "would endanger Ohio's election preparations."
[...]
Nader has been drawing support between 1 percent and 2 percent of voters in Ohio polls. While Nader voters are unpredictable, Doug Schoen, a Democratic strategist unaffiliated with Kerry's campaign, said the Democrat should be the beneficiary. "Given how close the race in Ohio is, this could potentially make all the difference in the world," he said.
Not quite what was advertised in the title line huh? Yes, if John "so very" Kerry needs a specific example of vote suppression, well, the party under whose banner he ran was the one involved. Yes, the LET EVERY VOTE COUNT party is proven once again not to be the party of free elections. Oh, the libs wax poetic about free speech and elections while simultaneously attempting to keep, successfully mind you, a legitimate candidate for President off the ballot in Ohio, Illinois and numerous other states where "friendly" judges and statehouse officials managed to sabotage the independent's campaign.
Yet, despite all their attempts to manipulate this last election into a Kerry victory, they still lost. If they had any sense of shame, or let's make that any sense at all, they would learn from their mistakes. Happily, for we Republicans, the dims failures only make them more determined to head down the "beaten" path. So, you want to know about vote suppression, ask Mr Nader, he'll be the one with the knife in his back.
